Modes

Channel modes are set with /mode <#channel> ±<modes> [parameters]
User modes are set with /mode <yournick> ±<modes>

Channel Modes

Mode Parameter Meaning Description
A AdminPass Admin password Recovery password for channel founder. Set one when creating a channel.
U UserPass User password Channel password for channel managers to gain operator status and always be able to join channel.
b hostmask Ban Prevents users matching hostmask from joining or talking in the channel
i Invite Joining the channel requires an invite from an operator (@)
k password Key Joining the channel required knowing the password (or "key")
l number Limit Only number users can join the channel.
m Moderated Only operators (@) and voiced members (+) may speak.
n No external messages Users have to be in the channel to talk in it.
o nickname @Operator Makes nickname an operator in the channel.
p Private Users can not be viewed from outside the channel, and channel will be hidden from users whois reply.
s Secret Users and topic can not be viewed from outside the channel, and channel will be hidden from users whois reply.
t Topic lock Only operators can change the topic.
v nickname +Voice nickname can speak when channel is moderated
D Delayed New users are invisible until they become active.
d exDelayed Delayed mode has been removed, but there are still invisible users present. This mode can not be toggled manually.
R Registered Channel has been registered with a channel service bot. This mode can not be toggled manually.
r Registration required Only users logged into R can join the channel.
c ctrlblock Messages containing text decorations, or control codes, will not be sent to the channel.
C CTCPblock CTCP can not be sent to the entire channel.

User Modes

Mode Meaning Description
d Deaf Mutes all channel messages
i Invisible Prevents user from showing in /who and /names replies
w Wallops See certain messages sent by the IRC operators
x Hidden IP Hides IP when logged in and replaces it with \<username>.reg. Can not be removed without reconnecting.
